The home is the place that reveals who we are. And this home is exactly what its inhabitants are – sunny, welcoming, and spacious. For the living room, we opted for an open plan that emphasizes the natural light coming into the space from three directions. Due to the fact that this property is almost entirely devoid of walls, we used bright yellow tones in the soft furnishings to loudly declare that this is a home, not a showroom. We calmed the pace with a dark oak base with rustic elements, taking into account the information that our client has a rich set of personal items with sentimental value that we need to incorporate into the interior, creating a blend of modern fresh tones and timeless elements from the past. The background of the space is the kitchen, which with its modern and clean look and graphite lacquer provides a base and coziness to the entire space. As an architectural element, we kept the columns of visible concrete, which correspond to the strip of visible concrete on the ceiling of the space.
The library definitely proved to be a challenge. It serves as a parapet, additional lighting for the stairs, due to the specific needs of one of the owners, hides the air conditioning unit, as well as the main electrical trace of the maisonette. It smoothly transitions into the TV wall and complements the decor laid out in the interior seamlessly. The library provides our clients with the much-needed storage space for the knick-knacks we can’t do without.
Rarely do we encounter a property that provides such a diverse and abundant palette of natural light, as this one does. The open architecture allows for an endless play of light and shadow in the penthouse throughout the day, creating captivating scenes of illumination. Our aim was to preserve and offer the same richness of light even during the dark hours of the day, when our clients return from work. To achieve this, we incorporated a comprehensive set of dimmable circuits for the living room, as well as basic and decorative dimmable lighting for the bathrooms.
The bathrooms, in particular, are a hidden treasure in this property’s crown. In the small bathroom, the blue glass accent is strategically positioned to maximize the benefit of the overhead light located above the shower. The natural marble flooring with pink veins imbues the space with a softness, while the white tiles with pronounced facets add texture. Similarly, the main bathroom features mirror-polished bands of agate as its accent, which, with its countless threads and layers, reflect the incoming daylight from the French window on the left and the indirect LED light from the right in the evening in a fantastic manner. The resulting scene is indescribable and provides an unforgettable experience.
The absence of walls posed additional challenges, such as the lack of a full-length mirror in the master bedroom. To address this issue, we installed a sleek glass mirror door between the bedroom and the bathroom, enabling our clients to admire their entire reflection from both rooms while getting ready in the morning and winding down in the evening.
For this particular project, we crafted a custom mechanism for pull-out wardrobes and shoe cabinets under the stairs. While standard mechanisms typically offer up to 60 cm of opening, the apartment’s design called for a 100 cm niche under the stairs. We are firm believers that every inch of space should be utilized to its fullest potential, which is why we designed a practical yet elegant system to make the most out of the available space.
